They can be certified to deliver a wide range of treatments or they can choose to specialise in certain areas like massage, facials or waxing. Whatever treatments they deliver, a beauty therapist must have a complete understanding of each treatment-s effect on the skin and body, including a thorough understanding of the lotions, waxes etc. they-re using.
The bond between a beauty therapist and their client is special: there-s a lot of trust involved, so it-s important that the beauty therapist has the social skills to put their client at ease from the moment the session begins to the moment it ends. Beauty therapy isn-t just about making the client look fabulous on the outside, it-s about making them feel good on the inside too.
One thing it-s important to remember, though - a beauty therapist is not a GP. If a client ever asks for medical advice, a beauty therapist should always tell them to contact a medical professional and not attempt to make a diagnosis.
