Globally, there are 39 million individuals who are visually impaired. Of those, 80% of all blindness is preventable or treatable, resulting in more than 30 million people who have lost their sight for no valid reason. Cataract surgeries are simple, effective, and inexpensive, so if people had access to proper healthcare, most blindness could be avoided. Therefore, the real cause of blindness is not a lack of treatment options, but rather a lack of access to quality healthcare.
