Our mats are designed with three layers:
The surface layer for the pet to tread on. It is a non-slip material that allows the liquid waste to pass through to the next layer. It is not a woven fabric, so that a tear will not extend the length or width of the mat, and it is strong enough so that a pet will not damage the surface. The surface layer thickness is dependent on the animal, and each mat type reflects the weight, type, and size of your pet.
The absorbent layer holds the liquid waste and ammonia vapour. Again, dependent on the pet, the holding capacity of the mat will vary.
The liquid barrier blocks any liquid from leaking onto the aircraft deck. The strength of this layer is also dependent on the pet.

There are no sewing holes on our mats, so there is no chance of even minimal leakage.
